Plan ahead and be heat smart when travelling
With hot weather expected across the state over the next few days, be heat smart when travelling. Plan ahead and think about what time of the day you're setting out, how long your trip will take and what time you will arrive at your destination.
If possible, you should consider scheduling activities in the coolest part of the day.
Follow these summer travel tips to stay heat smart:
- Check for and consider current warnings in your area.
- Monitor the weather and using the Bureau of Meteorology’s weather services.
- If you feel unwell, don't board the train, bus, light rail or ferry. Ask a member of staff for help.
- If you are on a train and feel unwell, get off at the next station where you can get help from station staff.
- Wear a hat and sunscreen and take a bottle of water with you.
- Wait on areas of the station, stop or wharf that are out of direct sunlight if possible
- Plan your public transport trip, or if driving go to livetraffic.com.
- Keep informed on your trip via travel alerts and real-time apps
Train speed restrictions during hot weather
During extreme hot weather conditions, speed restrictions may be put in place on trains as a safety measure. This is to prevent damage to the rail network and infrastructure, as tracks expand in the heat. If there are speed restrictions in place, Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink work to minimise any impact to customers.
