Opal peak and off-peak fares

Get a 30% discount when you travel on Fridays, weekends, public holidays, and outside these peak times.

Peak times (Monday to Thursday, excluding public holidays)

Sydney Metro and Train 

  • Morning: 6:30am - 10am
  • Evening: 3pm - 7pm

Intercity Trains 

  • Morning: 6am - 10am
  • Evening: 3pm - 7pm

Note: morning peak travel times can vary for some Intercity stations, depending on where you tap on. Look up your station to check your morning peak time.

Bus and Light rail

  • Morning: 6:30am - 10am
  • Evening: 3pm - 7pm

Your fare is calculated from the time when you tap on with your Opal card or contactless card or device.

Remember: There is no off-peak discount when using an Opal single ticket.
