Event Information

Run Wollongong and "Tri the Gong" will take place over two days at Wollongong's Belmore Basin. Large crowds are expected to attend the event, attendees are encouraged to catch transport with trains and buses within short walking distance. 

Trains run regularly to North Wollongong and Wollongong on the South Coast Line, both are within walking distance or the ‘free Gong shuttle’ (routes 55A and 55C) will be running throughout the day. 

If you have to drive travel with your group and use nearby local parking. Allow extra travel time as traffic may be heavier than usual around the area. You can find real-time updates on traffic conditions at livetraffic.com

Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

Saturday 26 April Run Wollongong changed traffic conditions

Road closures in place from 6.30am - 10am:

  • Crown Street - between Parkside Ave and Marine Drive
  • Marine Drive - between Crown street and Cliff Road / Endeavour Drive
  • Endeavour Drive - between Cliff Road and Endeavour Drive
  • Cliff Drive - between Cliff Road and Marine Drive to Blacket Street

Road closures in place from 6.30am - 3pm:

  • Elliots Road - between Squires Way and Fairy Meadow Beach

Road closures in place from 10am - 3.30pm:

  • Cliff Road - between Harbour Street and Marine Drive

Saturday 27 April 'Tri the Gong' changed traffic conditions

Road closures in place from 6.30am - 2pm:

  • Cliff Road - between Marine Drive to George Hanley Drive
  • Bourke Street - between Cliff Road to the entry of Novotel North Beach
  • Corrimal Street - between Blacket Street to George Hanley Drive
  • George Hanley Drive - between Cliff Road and Squires Way
  • Squires Way - George Hanley Drive to Pioneer Road

A detour will be in place for traffic using Corrimal St and Bourke Street.

Free Gong Shuttle Diversions

The free "Gong Shuttle" bus (routes 55A and 55C) runs every 10 minutes in a loop around Wollongong making stops at North Wollongong Station, Fairy Meadow Station, Gywneville and Wollongong University and Innovation Campus.

Saturday 26 April

Due to road closures on Crown St at WIN Stadium, this service will divert via Corrimal St from 6:30am to 11:30am

Sunday 27 April

Due to road closures, the service will divert via Elliots Rd, Cowper St, Montague St, Princes Hwy, Bourke St, Corrimal St before 2pm, and Elliots Rd, Squires Way, Bourke St, Corrimal St after 2pm

Route 887 Diversions

Saturday 26 April

Due to road closures this service will divert via Corrimal St, Campbell St, Church St, Bourke St from 6:30am to 3:30pm

Sunday 27 April

Due to road closures, the service will divert via Corrimal St, Campbell St, Church St, Bourke St from 6:30am to 2pm

Other Diversions Sunday 27 April

  • Route 65s will divert via Corrimal St, Bourke St, Church St from 6:30am to 1pm
  • Routes 3 & 8 will divert via Carters Lane, Towradgi Rd, Pioneer Rd until 12pm.These services will not operate via Murranar Rd during the closure.

The closest stations are North Wollongong and Wollongong on the South Coast Line. The event is approximately a 20-30 minute walk from each station, or you can catch the ‘free Gong shuttle’ (routes 55A and 55C).

Trackwork will be taking place on the South Coast Line on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 April. 

Saturday 26 April

  • From 1am to 3am buses replace trains from Wollongong to Port Kembla and Kiama
  • From 3am to 11am buses will replace trains between Kiama, Port Kembla and Sutherland

Sunday 27 April

  • From 2.30am to 9.50am buses will replace trains between Bomaderry and Wollongong

There is limited parking available at the event, there is additional paid and free car parking around the Wollongong CBD. Allow extra travel time as traffic may be heavier than usual around the area.
