Train services will run across the heavy rail network this weekend
Passengers are advised timetabled and special event services will operate across the heavy rail network this weekend after the Rail, Tram, and Bus Union agreed to an interim deal where they will not apply their notified Industrial Actions.
A resolution has been reached between the NSW Government, Sydney Trains, NSW Trains, and the Combined Rail Unions. As part of this interim deal Sydney Trains has committed to running as many 24-hour services as possible this weekend, while continuing essential trackwork.
Transport for NSW will continue to offer supplementary transport options for the rest of the weekend as well as timetabled and special event services rail services.
These alternative transport options include:
- Sydney Trains will run 23 additional special event rail services from Central to Olympic Park for Pearl Jam on Saturday.
- A major event bus plan will supplement special event train services for Sydney Olympic Park on Saturday. Major Event Buses will run every 10 – 20 minutes between 3.35pm and 6.53pm, depending on the route. After the show buses will run until last service at 11.30pm.
- Sydney Metro will uplift services to run every four-minutes from 6am Friday until 8pm, where it will then shift to eight-minute services until the last train from Central to Tallawong at 1:30am Saturday. Sydney Metro will then be shut down for scheduled maintenance work between Chatswood and Sydenham until 2am on Monday.
- Sydney Light Rail services will have an increased frequency between 7am-7pm on Saturday, like a Friday timetable.
- Motorists are reminded that major roadworks are scheduled on the M7 Motorway between Elizabeth Drive and The Horsley Drive, and at the Warringah Freeway Upgrade this weekend. Some local congestion is still anticipated in those areas, even with a resumption of train services.
Safety critical trackwork will take place on the rail network this weekend, with buses replacing trains as follows:
- T2 Leppington & Inner West line, T5 Cumberland line and T8 Airport & South line: Buses will replace trains between Macarthur, Glenfield and Fairfield all weekend. From Saturday 9:40pm to Sunday 1pm, buses will also replace trains between Leppington and East Hills.
- T3 Liverpool & Inner West line: Buses will replace trains between Liverpool, Cabramatta and Lidcombe via Regents Park.
- T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown line: Buses will replace trains between Bankstown and Lidcombe.
- Southern Highlands line: Buses will replace trains between Goulburn, Moss Vale and Glenfield. From Saturday 9.40pm to Sunday 1pm, buses will also replace trains between Goulburn, Moss Vale and East Hills.
